2nd stop of the day: Seong-eup Folk Village, a traditional village with people still living there.
This is the front of the village. Traditional houses in Jeju don’t have gates but 3 poles stretched between stone gateposts. When 3 poles are down, you are free to enter cos the owner is home.
A adorable-looking black pig… but eerr… we will be having BBQ black pork for lunch later…
The local guide of the village sharing with us how Jeju islanders keep their water clean. They will place a weaved rope in their water pots to trap dirt and leaves and then place a frog in the water. If the frog stays alive, the water is clean. Hmm…..
Then there is this cute Korean auntie who acted as an extra in the popular drama Da Chang Jin. Hee… but heard that she only appeared several seconds in the show and was washing clothes at a corner… But she’s very cute and the way she speaks Chinese is amusing!
So she started to share about how people carry the water pots using weave baskets and then called Adriel out to do a demo. I think Adriel is an aunty killer!
Watch the video below and dun miss the last part…

Then she brought us around to see an actual home.
And not forgetting product demos and opportunities to buy their local products…
The honey was quite amazing.. put it in water and it will start to form honey comb patterns!
We din really get to explore deeper into the village but below are some pics we managed to take.
Off to lunch!
Yummy sizzling black pork! The pork was seasoned very well! And of cos we tried not to think of the little porky pig we met earlier!
You wrap the pork up with lettuce leaves and gobble up! And the thing about restaurants here in Korea is they will keep refilling the meat, the lettuce, the seaweed, the rice…….
Another interesting thing is toothpicks here in Korea can be eaten! But only the green ones, they are made of starch. In case you were wondering, Joe din eat the toothpick lah!
I stole more shots of my tour guide, Michael, cos he’s super funny, I really like him a lot! One moment he can be very serious talking about politics or history and the next moment, he’s laughing at his own jokes!
3rd stop: Cheonjiyeon Waterfall
Its name means a waterfall that connects the sky (ch’eon) and land (ji). It’s really quite beautiful!
Check out the video for a “live” view!

Some other pics around the area
As we explored the park area, there was this 5-headed fountain with different animals. The animals symbolise different blessings like: tortoise (longevity), boar (wealth), dragon (honor), mandarin duck (love) and carp (sons). Choose the blessing you want, stand in front of the animal and throw a coin into the “lucky bag” in the centre!
Guess which animal I stood in front of while tossing in the coin? =p
Look out for Part 3…. yes, it was that long a day!
