Ever since I saw Minghui’s tweet last year about having a fruit yu sheng with her family, I had determined in my heart to try out one as well! And what more perfect occasion than have my friends as guinea pigs?!?? Heheh! I searched online for a recipe and adapted one from here.
Basically cut up the fruits into thin strips. In my yu sheng, I had Chinese pear, rock melon, honey dew, mango and strawberries. Forgot the oranges!! I guess this is also a good way to “get rid” of all the mandarin oranges collected over the New Year! It would be nice to include kiwi fruit too I think to add in some green into the mix!
Instead of preparing a sauce, I took the easy way out and bought yoghurt! I got the one with Aloe Vera thinking it would add some nice bite to the yu sheng but on hindsight, a yoghurt which is more sweet and fruity would be better.
To top it all, sprinkle golden cornflakes all over!
Time to lou hei! Obviously it wouldn’t be like your usual lou hei cos the ingredients are not as light and easy to toss but still fun nonetheless! Sigh but all our Chinese cannot make it …
Done! In the end, we abandoned the chopsticks and ate the fruit yu sheng with spoons!
Yums!
Try making your own next year! =)
