Carilyn's Wedding (Part 2)

Talking about wedding sabos... there are cruel ones and there are fun ones. Cruel ones include any one of the following:

1) Getting the groom and brothers to stand for a number of seconds on a tray of eggs
2) Having them melt a huge block of ice with just their feet
3) Asking them to wash their feet in a basin of water and then getting them to drink the water
4) Quizzing them on a number of questions related to the bride and if they get them wrong, their face gets pinched by a clothes peg. What's special about these pegs are they are attached by strings onto the gate. So when the guys are not looking or distracted, some very "kind soul" will pull open the door!!! My fren has done this merciless act several times and seen precious skin trapped by the clothes peg! Awwww!
5) Eat weird stuff like concoctions comprising eggs, wasabi, chilli padis, ginger, garlic, etc.. At Carilyn's wedding, wasabi concentrate was frozen with crickets and bugs bought from Golden Mile. These ice-cubes were tough to eat cos they were cold frozen and you can't just swallow them quickly. You just gotta let them melt slowly in your mouth....

Then we have the fun and harmless sabos. They let everyone have a good laugh and nothing is sacrificed in the process. Of course, fun-loving and sporty guys are needed in the mix. Some fun sabos:
1) Having one of the guys put on intense red nail polish and lipstick and act as an actress in an Indian movie. So the guys gotta prance and dance around a coconut tree
2) For Carilyn's wedding, we got the guys to sing her favourite song, the Doraemon song all the way from the 1st floor. And when in the house, the groom is supposed to come up with a story stringing some random words including "Doraemon" and each time "Doraemon" is uttered, the brother gotta do a little Doraemon tune and song.

Then we have the ang pows which can range from the very creative to the very irritating. For our first ang pow from Kevin, we got a small slip of printed quotation, something that says, "Love is patient.. or love is priceless..." Please, talk is cheap, show us the money!! Then some smart brothers give ang pows stuffed with tissue paper, newspaper.. and if the sisters have been harassed enough to open the gate, they may just let the guys in without checking! Trust me, it has happened before! Well, all in all, it should be a time of fun and laughter and a great conversation topic when reliving the events of the day.

The wedding ceremony was sweet, especially with special performances from Music Miners, the choir Carilyn was a part of in university and Kevin who changed the words of Amazing Grace for a special dedication to Carilyn. Then of course, the interesting video which showed Kevin in his "former glory"! The speeches were heart-warming, with not a dry eye in the house!

The wedding dinner was held at The Legends, Fort Canning and it was God's blessing that it didn't rain. We were busy helping out at the reception counter, allocating seats to the various guests. Hmm.. wonder if there was a better way to smoothen the process. We din know half of their many colleagues and relatives and locating their names took some effort. Shall brainstorm some good efficient ways for my own wedding!

To sum everything up, it was a great wedding and I wish Kevin and Carilyn all the best in their future together!
